A study on the coloration effectiveness of <i>Chromolaena odorata</i> on the worsted wool fabric

Purpose The health and environmental hazards associated with synthetic dyes have led to a revival of natural that are non-toxic, environmentally benign coupled various functions. study aims investigate develop the potentiality popular herb called Chromolaena odorata ( C. ) as sustainable stable dyestuff in textiles. Design/methodology/approach Natural colorant extracted from leaves is used dye worsted fabric, which one premier end-use wool fashion, via padding method pre-, simultaneous post-mordanting chitosan, tannic acid copper sulfate pentahydrate. effects extraction, dyeing mordanting processes on fabric’s color strength K/S difference ΔE CMC investigated International Commission Illumination’s L*a*b* space, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, fastness washing, rubbing, perspiration light. Findings results obtained indicate extraction ethanol 90% solid/liquid ratio 1:5 within 1 h, coloration liquor (pH 5) 2 h under pressure 0.3 MPa most effective for coloring fabric. Practical implications ’s application highly possessing good colorimetric effectiveness has expanded this herb's economic potential, contributing partly growth adding value global supply chain. Originality/value prevailed over other colorants because its impressive against especially stability pH change.
